The port at Kusadasi is brand new, and more regulated in contrast to Istanbul to the North. We traveled by tour bus. We were amazed by our driver's mad driving skillz on those narrow streets. Our guide, Zach, moonlights as a tour guide. He teaches history at a high school for his day job, a bonus for us!
We drove up to the town of Ephesus, where the Apostle Paul preached in the amphitheatres here. Ephesus is being excavated and there is about 70% still buried to be discovered. The Apostle John is buried here, in a castle on one of the hills.
The highlight of this leg of the tour was a visit to a house in which the Virgin Mary lived her last days. The shrine is maintained by Franciscan monks. No pictures were allowed inside, but we did get some shots of the outside. Christians and Muslims both revere Mary and visit the house she lived in. And that was just frickin' amazing!
